Let's Hear It For the Boys

Our groom's cake (above) was created by Gail Wilson Cakes, and the photo is by our incredible photographer, Enigma Productions.

Originally from the north, I had never heard of the concept of a groom's cake until I moved down to Virginia. I did a google search to find the exact definition of a groom's cake and what it symbolizes and found this:

"Having its roots in Southern tradition, the groom's cake has been around for quite some time and is making a fashionable comeback on the wedding scene. Traditionally, a groom's cake was sliced and boxed for the unmarried girls attending the wedding to take home and place under their pillows in hopes that the man they dreamed of would be their future husband. Groom's Cake has come along way since then. Today the cake is meant to be a reflection of the groom's interests, whether it be one of his hobbies, favorite sport, alma mater, profession, etc..

It's a personal choice when to serve the cake - either at the rehearsal dinner, as an alternate dessert with the wedding cake, or as a late night dessert for the wedding party. Just because primarily groom cakes tend to be a fruit cake or a chocolate cake shouldn't dictate what the bride and groom should have. Obviously being named "Groom's Cake" it should be a flavor and theme that the groom enjoys."

Since my darling husband is a good old southern boy, I worked with his mom to surprise him with a groom's cake for our rehearsal dinner- and I'm so glad we did! After we decided on a theme, my sweet mother-in-law took care of the rest and the cake turned out amazing and delicous and my husband loved his "medical" cake!
Below are some great flickr finds of groom's cakes that I put into different categories for some inspiration- enjoy!

Main Squeeze

So in earlier post I shared that my beautiful little sister is getting married and has asked me to be her matron of honor (yay!) She has decided to have a citrus themed wedding, using shades of orange, green and yellow, with accents of pink... i love it! This is what I originally put together for her to help her see what the overall concept would look like:

Since she's decided on this color scheme, I've been scouring the interent for different "citrus" wedding related ideas and have come up with a TON! Now I'm in the process of putting them all together for a little inspiration. Here's are some great citrus centerpieces I've found:
